Volkswagen Explores World of Shared Shuttles
Published: 09-Dec-2017
It seats six and has a range of 300 km (186mi. per charge), which can be restored to 80 percent state of charge in just 30 minutes. It's Volkswagen's new all-electric shuttle, the wheels of its year-old ride-sharing shuttle service that includes a custom ride hailing App to schedule pickups and pay for travel.
First announced in 2016, MOIA is the German carmaker's response to a growing shift away from private car ownership that's emerging in major urban centers. The van took 10 months to develop and when officially deployed, first in Hamburg, VW expects it to displace 200 cars. Eventually by 2025, MOIA's CEO Ole Harms anticipates the fleet to remove the equivalent of a million cars off the road every day.
